The father of Manchester United star midfielder, Paul Pogba, Fassou Antoine Pogba, has died according to reports in France.
According to Mirror, the sad news was confirmed to popular French daily, Le Parisien on Friday night by the family. A number of other French publications have also reported his passing.
The older Pogba is said to have been treated for a long-term illness before he passed away at the age of 79.
In March this year, 24-year-old France star, Pogba shared an image on Instagram of himself and his dad as he celebrated his 79th birthday.
The former Juventus star captioned the image: “Happy birthday dear Dad, I feel blessed to be your son #pogdaddy #fighter #pogbance.”
Though not actively involved in football, Fassou memorably appeared in the stands for France’s draw with Switzerland during Euro 2016, in the company of his other two sons, Florentin and Mathias, wearing shirts saying “Happy Father’s Day” in French.
The brothers are Guinea internationals who play for Sparta Rotterdam and Saint-Etienne respectively, and looked happy to be cheering on Les Blues and Paul, who at the end of the match revealed the same shirt.
Pogba has recently come under Fifa investigation following his world record transfer from Juventus to United, although manager Jose Mourinho has said he has nothing to worry about.
